PlaceTagz
Abstract
Mobile phones are often used to interact with ones’ social circle in geographical disperse locations. However, mobile phones can also be utilised to have interactions with collocated people in the same public urban space. The PlaceTagz project investigates how physical artefacts in public urban places, especially public toilets, can be utilised and combined with mobile phone technologies to facilitate interactions. PlaceTagz are QR codes printed on stickers linking to a digital message board enabling collocated users to interact with each other over time resulting in a place-based digital memory. Inspired by toilet graffiti, this project sets out to explore if PlaceTagz can create narratives about a particular space considering peoples context while using the space. Additionally we want to answer the question, how such digital narratives can change the user experience of a particular urban space.
