Fostering Digital Participation through Living Labs in Regional and Rural Australian Communities

ARC Linkage 2014 – 2016

This study aims to identify the specific digital needs and practices of residents in regional and rural Australia in the context of the implementation of high speed internet, including the National Broadband Network. It will investigate how researchers and digital technology users can work together through a series of ‘Living Labs’ to identify new and successful ways for enabling residents to develop their confidence and skills across the network of homes, libraries and community centres. By drawing on two research fields – digital media literacy and urban informatics – the study will make a significant and innovative contribution to understanding how digital citizenship can be viewed through this dual lens.
