Julie-Anne Carroll
After her PhD graduation in 2009, Julie-Anne Carroll is now a Lecturer in Sociology with the School of Public Health (SPH) at Queensland University of Technology. She lectures in the areas of women’s and family health, international health, and social and cultural determinants of health inequalities. She has research interests in how people’s place of residence affect their health. Specifically, her work focuses on how the geographic landscapes people inhabit, and the social spheres they occupy influence their lifestyles, and consequently their health. She is particularly interested in how health-behaviours tend to cluster around areas of residence, and how communication processes work to produce and sustain these patterns. Her research spans both urban and rural spaces as they pertain to public health.
