BCompSc, MCompSc, PhD, University of Cagliari, Italy
Alessandro Soro received his PhD in mathematics and scientific computing from the University of Cagliari, defending a dissertation on “Gestures and Cooperation: Considering non-verbal communication in the design of interactive spaces” and a Master of Computer Science from the University of Cagliari in 2006 discussing a graduation thesis titled “Range Queries over Structured P2P Networks”.
Since July 2012, he is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q), where he investigates technical and human factors of in-vehicle intelligent user interfaces.
From October 2011 to March 2012 he has been visiting fellow at the Urban Informatics Research Lab. From Sep 2000 to early 2012 he has been a researcher at CRS4 (Centre for Advanced Studies and Research in Sardinia), a position from which he is his currently on leave, and where he has been involved in several research projects, funded under national and international schemes.
His current research interests include human-computer interaction and computer supported cooperative work, focused on the design of in-vehicle intelligent interfaces. In the past, he has explored several aspects of social, collaborative and ubiquitous computing, focusing on the design of multi-touch interactive surfaces (tables and walls) and their applications, such as, to name a few, collaborative information retrieval, exploration of multimedia databases, collaborative software engineering.
